Unnecessary weight from the car

It is also helpful to check the many storage compartments as well. Sweets or children's toys quickly “hidden” here. Forgotten food can spoil and lead to unpleasant smells. Roof boxes and luggage racks should also be removed again. A roof box weighs on average between 15 and 20 kilograms, increases air resistance and increases fuel consumption by up to two liters.
Off to the car wash after the vacation trip
Once everything has been cleared out, the interior of the vehicle is cleaned. Vacuuming and wiping upholstery, plastic parts and windows with a damp cloth should remove holiday souvenirs in the form of sand, salt, dirt and dust. A visit to a car wash - also with an underbody wash - ensures that the body is clean again. Special cleaners help against stubborn dirt from insect residues on the windshield or headlights.
If the vehicle shines, the time is right to examine it for damage to the body. Possible stone chips should be touched up to prevent rust. The windshield and headlights should also be checked for stone chip damage.
The car also deserves a little overhaul. When you look under the bonnet, the oil, cooling water and windscreen washer fluid are checked and topped up if necessary. You should also take a look at the level in the brake fluid reservoir. Finally, the tires should also be inspected. Are they OK or are they damaged? Or is the remaining tire profile too low? It must be at least 1,6 millimeters. Also important: checking the tire pressure. After the holiday-related adjustment to full load, it can be reduced again if necessary.
