Renault-Nissan: timetable for autonomous driving

Autonomous driving is currently not the only focus of premium manufacturers. So Kia surprised at the CES with quite advanced technology. Another volume manufacturer is also working in this direction and has a specific schedule.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance wants to launch more than ten models with technologies for automated driving in the next four years. Compared to the premium competition, however, the systems required for this should be cheaper.

A system will be introduced this year that will allow cars to drive autonomously on the motorway without changing lanes. The "Single Lane Control" also includes stop-and-go traffic. From 2018, the "Multiple Lane Control" will follow, which will automatically recognize dangers, deal with them and also be able to change lanes independently on the motorway. Autonomous technologies for city traffic are expected with "Intersection Autonomy" 2020. This means that cars can also cross city centers without driver intervention. If you are not interested in these autonomous driving systems, you can unsubscribe.

By using autonomous technologies in mass-market series vehicles, the Renault-Nissan Alliance hopes to significantly reduce the rate of road deaths in the future. 90 percent of driving errors are regarded as the cause of fatal accidents.

This year, new applications for smartphones and mobile devices will be presented, which will make it possible to connect to the car remotely. From 2017, the "Alliance Multimedia System" will bring optimized smartphone integration and wireless map updates.

Kia also already has concrete plans for autonomous driving. At the CES technology fair in Las Vegas, the manufacturer presented the freeway assistant, which had previously been tested on desert stages in Nevada. Kia wants to bring fully autonomous cars to the streets by 2030, and various semi-autonomous systems will be introduced by 2020 at the latest.
