Review: Saxony Classic 2015

Saxony not only has a long history of automobile manufacturing, but also beautiful landscapes, a region with major watch manufacturers and a traditional brewery. The perfect backdrop to the 13. One time Oldtimerrallye to lead through Saxony and the surrounding area.

The locals seem to love the rolling car museum. Because everywhere, where the 180 cars strong participant field winds through the partially small towns in flickering heat, enthusiastic people stand on the wayside. Children with flags in their hands, party tents, the scent of grilled meat pulls through one and the other alley.

A test, usually a 100-300 meter long section, which must be completed in a certain time, is the "Steep Wall" of Meerane. With a climb of 12 percent and this year at temperatures around the 38 degrees, many a pre-war classic car snorts up the mountain.

In our "Rallye Golf G60" from 1990 provided by Volkswagen Classic, we have it a little easier. The 210 HP, which the GTI engine inflates by means of a G-charger, has an easy job with the incline.

In the end, however, a pre-war classic car will be ahead. After a journey over 628 kilometers through Saxony Anhalt, Thuringia, the Erzgebirge and even through the Czech Republic, Gianmaria Aghem and Rosella Conti have conceded the fewest error points and win the Sachsen Classic 2015. Their BMW 328 1938 model reliably covered the track like many of the younger models that competed in the Youngtimer class.

How we experienced this (time) journey in the VW Rallye Golf, you can read here.
