Gentle lifting for the roughest Mini

Mini sees little room for improvement in the Countryman crossover model. The lifting is accordingly cautious.

The Mini Countryman enters the second half of life with slight optical retouching and new technology. The small crossover will be available at dealers from July at prices starting at 29.500 euros. In November the basic model for 26.600 euros complements the program.

From the outside, the revamped BMW X1 offshoot is primarily recognizable by the new, now standard LED headlights. The rear lights are now designed in the Union Jack style. Digital instruments are moving into the cockpit, and there is also a larger central display on request.

Everything remains the same with the drive. If you count the all-wheel drive models separately, there are eleven variants to choose from. It starts with the “One” with 75 kW / 102 PS, which will be available from autumn, before the 100 kW / 136 PS “Cooper” is the cheapest option. The top model is initially the plug-in hybrid "Cooper SE" with 165 kW / 224 PS. In between there are still the well-known three- and four-cylinder engines, including diesel and gasoline. All-wheel drive is standard on the hybrid model, and optionally available for all other models except the basic models. The power transmission in the all-wheel drive is handled by an eight-speed automatic, with the front-wheel drive variants, customers can choose between a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

The main competitors of the lifestyle SUV remain the technically closely related but somewhat larger BMW X1 / X2, the Audi Q2 and the Mazda CX-30.
