Skoda Kodiaq - bearish name for the new SUV

The new mid-size SUV from Skoda will be called Kodiaq when it hits the market in early 2017. The namesake is the Kodiak bear living in Alaska, the special spelling is based on the language of the indigenous people. The Czech VW subsidiary already indicated what the big brother of the Yeti would look like with the Vision S study at the Geneva Motor Show. The production model should make its debut at the autumn fair in Paris.

The Kodiaq is based on the same multi-model platform as the Tiguan, but at 4,70 meters in length it is noticeably larger and offers an optional third row of seats. For the new flagship, Skoda can also make extensive use of the VW technology shelf and also use the most modern infotainment and assistance systems. Group technology is also used for the drive, initially in the form of conventional four-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines with output values in the range from 110 kW / 150 PS to just over 200 PS. A plug-in hybrid could follow later. All-wheel drive is available as an option.

The price of the Kodiaq should be in the range of 25.000 euros upwards. Its competitors include Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Grand Santa Fe.
