Smart Stops Benzins in the US - Only Electric

The small car manufacturer Smart removes the combustion engine from the program in the USA. In the future, the Fortwo and Forfour models will only be available with electric drives, as the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" reports, referring to a letter from America boss Dietmar Exler to the dealers of the brand. The same applies to Norway's leading e-car market; In all other countries, the petrol variants will continue to exist in addition to the e-models. The report cites the low fuel prices in the United States as the reason for the decision of the Daimler subsidiary, which has caused the demand for conventionally powered small cars to collapse. According to the brand, the chances for a purely electric city car are obviously better.

In Germany, the two-seater Smart Fortwo and the four-seater Forfour are available both electrically and with conventional engines. The E-model costs from 21.950 euros, the petrol engine from 10.550 euros. (Holger Holzer / SP-X)
