This is what the future of Mercedes looks like up to 2030

German car manufacturers see their future in electromobility. After Volkswagen, Mercedes has now also announced its goals for 2030. According to this, 70 percent of the engine variants should disappear in the next nine years. In other words, the Stuttgart-based carmaker intends to eliminate all conventional engine versions by 2030, and the combustion engines are to be replaced by electric models in the entire portfolio.

The strict emission standards

On the one hand, it is the clear political course and on the other hand the very strict Euro 7 emissions standards that have induced both VW and Mercedes to switch their program to electric cars. According to the EU's plans, only cars with barely measurable emissions should be on Europe's roads. The whole thing is true then by the way also for the car with a heavy trailer that drives up a steep mountain. The responsible staff at the EU apparently overlooked the fact that the limits of physics are being exceeded.

Driving is getting more expensive

A look at the price boards of the gas stations has certainly spoiled the good mood of many motorists at the beginning of the new year, but it is likely to get worse. The new emissions standard makes driving combustion cars even more expensive, but the electric drive is also not easy on the wallet. Here it is the high cost of the battery that makes electric cars very expensive in the long run. Mercedes hopes that there may be an electric car by 2030, which can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in just six minutes. These would then be charging breaks that come very close to today's refueling.

What is Mercedes planning?

Just before Recently Mercedes presented its plans for electromobility. Six new models are due to be launched by 2022, with a choice ranging from the compact EQA to the luxury EQS sedan. The Smart has got a facelift, it is only offered electrically and is built by Geely in China. The restart is planned for the end of 2022. What is expected is not a new small two-seater, but rather a compact SUV, with different ranges.
