Sovereign victory of Paul di Resta in Hockenheim

Paul Di Resta won the DTM Sunday race at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg confidently and safely. In his Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM, the Scot crossed the finish line after 37 laps with a lead of 13,024 seconds. For Di Resta it is the seventh victory in the DTM. Most recently, the Scot was also victorious in Hockenheim in 2010. Behind the Mercedes-Benz driver, the two BMW drivers Timo Glock and Augusto Farfus were flagged in second and third. Gary Paffett, who was ranked fifth behind Maxime Martin, showed a great performance. The Briton was in second place for a long time behind winner Di Resta, but fell back to eleventh after a drive-through penalty and fought his way back to fifth as the race progressed. Nico Müller, who celebrated his first podium place on Saturday with third place, finished the Sunday race as the best Audi driver in eighth place.

Especially in the early stages of the race showed some parallels to Saturday: contact-oriented door-to-door duels, which did not always remain without damage. With Bruno Spengler, Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider, three former DTM champions had to park their vehicles early after a collision. After his successful appearance in the Rallycross World Championship - Ekström won the final there before the DTM race - the Swede had hoped for an equally good result in the DTM race.

After two of the 18 races of the season, Paul Di Resta is in the lead in the DTM drivers' standings with 37 points, ahead of his brand colleague Robert Wickens (26 points) and Edoardo Mortara (25 points). After finishing second on Saturday, Wickens finished sixth today. In the manufacturers' standings, Mercedes-Benz (83 points) takes the lead ahead of BMW (72 points) and Audi (47 points).

78.500 viewers visited the DTM opening weekend at the Hockenheimring, about five percent more than last year. At midsummer temperatures, they were offered a varied program of spectacular motorsport, complemented by live performances by Christina Stürmer, Finn Martin and DJ Antoine. Already in two weeks, at the 21. and 22. May, the next DTM weekend in Spielberg, Austria will be on the program.
