SquareTrip - the travel book for your pocket

Anyone who has ever run a logbook with pen and paper knows: That's no fun. Before and after each trip, I have to rummage my logbook out of the glove box and note the mileage of my car. I have to register when, where and for what purpose I went and on business trips with whom I met. Fewest drivers run a classic logbook for more than a few weeks. It's just annoying and eating time.

The alternative to the logbook is the 1% method. Here one per cent of the gross list price of the vehicle per month is paid to the tax office in order to tax the pecuniary advantage of private trips. But if I travel a lot for business with a company car, the 1% method can save me thousands of dollars a year, which I would save with a logbook.

Keeping a classic logbook with pen and paper is annoying and most people give up quickly. The alternative 1% method costs me taxes unnecessarily. What is left then?

The best solution at the moment is called Square TripAdvisor and comes from a Munich startup. SquareTrip is an app for the smartphone that keeps my logbook for me. SquareTrip automatically and completely recognizes all car journeys. The only thing I have to do is lead my smartphone with me. The tedious installation of additional hardware in the car or the cumbersome start and stop a trip by pressing a button are now a thing of the past. So I do not have to think about anything and never forget about rides again.

At least once a week I then categorize my trips into private and business trips, as well as commutes to work, as prescribed by the tax office. You can do this with a single click. SquareTrip then even learns how to categorize trips and automatically suggests the appropriate category the next time. At the end of the year I can simply generate my logbook as a PDF and submit it together with the tax return.

So what's clear: SquareTrip is very easy to use and really saves a lot of time compared to a classic logbook. But what does the app do so that the tax office recognizes my logbook?

SquareTrip was developed together with tax consultantsto make sure the requirements of the tax authorities are met. A few examples of how SquareTrip runs a tax-compliant logbook:

  • The tax office demands continuous, complete logbook, SquareTrip keeps a complete logbook. If you have your smartphone with you, every drive with start and end address will be recorded and the KM state will always be up to date.
  • The tax office demands that the logbook contemporary to be led. In SquareTrip, rides appear very quickly after the end of the journey. After a ride, the user can edit it for seven days, after which it is locked.
  • The tax authorities expect that subsequent changes are documented. SquareTrip records every change made to trips and also displays them in the PDF report.

SquareTrip is thus at the forefront of the logbook market: It automatically records journeys, keeps a logbook that complies with the tax authorities and thus helps to save a lot of time and taxes.
