Sweating for a coffee

There was someone who could make wine out of water. I'm sure it would be a really good business model today. Nissan has come up with something different - no wine, but coffee! And all you have to do is sweat a little!

Electric Café opens in Essen

Nissan wants to provide its visitors with a very holistic food for thought in the Electric Café in Essen, which opened today (August 24, 2017). It's not just about dusting off a free coffee, no, it's about the integration of sustainability, electromobility, enjoyment and a good conversation. Almost philosophically, this idea, with which Nissan once again presents itself as an e-mobility pioneer.

Sweating to coffee

It is 3 km that visitors should kick off before the free coffee is delivered. Three kilometers doesn't sound like much, but once you've taken a seat at the wooden table with the three cycling options, you soon start to sweat. Just sit down and cycle, not something that is easy for everyone. While Simone Raskob, the environmental department of the city of Essen, is brave on the bike and gives rather relaxed interviews, the author of these lines, Habby, has cycled to the edge of the heart. Sweat flows down the forehead, but giving up doesn't count.

Habby wanted to hold out for at least 5 minutes. In the end, he fought 1.4 watt hours - there was still a coffee, even if it was probably less than 3 kilometers. At Nissan, they not only have a heart for electric cars, but also for bloggers with ailing fitness.

While you're recovering, it's natural to ask yourself, "How long would I actually have to ride to charge a Nissan Leaf?" – Wouldn’t that be the solution to all problems 😉 We would be fit again and the electricity would be completely free? The calculator brings a little disillusionment. 16.8 W/h results in one hour of “Habby cycling” – that would be 0,0168 kWh or otherwise, 1.785,7 hours until Habby would have recharged the current 30 kWh Leaf. Then at least he would have his own cycling power and he would probably be fit afterwards.

Since the Nissan Electric Café doesn't even fit one of the more than 280.000 leaves already sold, the struggled power is stored in so-called xStorage memory modules. And here too Nissan shows the idea of sustainability. Because these modules were manufactured together with the company Eaton from recycled e-car batteries. It gives a meaningful answer to the question of the benefits of a car life. Such modules can serve as electricity storage for the home and thus close the wheel of electrified everyday life.

Nissan Leaf

On September 6th, Nissan will celebrate the world premiere of the second Leaf generation - but until then you should visit Nissan's Electrifiy Café in the Rathaus Galerie in Essen again, because the exciting idea of the “Pop Up Café” is only be there until September 2.9nd. experience live. After that, the anticipation for the new model increases. mein-auto-blog founder Habby won't miss this live premiere and you'll definitely read something about the new Leaf generation on my-auto-blog and there will be a VIDEO on the new YT channel AUTOHUB.

So that it doesn't get too boring next to the bike tour around the coffee machine, NISSAN does something about it and has planned a program of lectures for every day of the week.

Disclaimer: Of course, the coffee served was also a fair trade coffee 😉
