Tempo sticker must stick to the tire

In winter, small stickers with speed limits spoil the dashboard of many cars. Even if they shouldn't be easily removed - the stickers are easy to avoid.

Ugly, but mandatory: when changing winter tires, the workshop not only mounts new tires, but also sticks a small sticker on or on the steering wheel. The sticker shows the maximum speed that should be driven with the tires. The driver may only remove it if the specified value is above the tire speed entered in the vehicle registration document. The sticker requirement applies not only to classic winter tires, but also to all-season models.

Those who disregard the sticker rule are only fined in the rarest of cases by the police. However, if you catch a bad-tempered officer, it can cost 20 euros. In addition, the driver risks inadvertently exceeding the speed limit. There is a tolerance for every tire, and driving too fast for a short time does not always cause damage immediately. Extensive full-throttle tours should be avoided, however, as this can damage the tires - from a gradual loss of pressure to a burst.

If you want to avoid driving the entire winter with a sticker on, you should choose a model that matches the top speed of your car when buying tires. Unlike in the past, this is no longer a problem today; Numerous winter tires now allow speeds of 240 or even 270 km / h. However, they are usually more expensive than models with more rigid limits. The permitted speed can be recognized by the speed index, which can be found on the tire flank or in the vehicle registration document in the last position of the size designation. "Q" for example stands for 160 km / h, "W" for 270 km / h.
