Tesla Model Y - Model 3 with more space

The Tesla E car family is finally sexy. At least, as far as the model names are concerned: After S, 3 and X, the Y is now added.

Tesla bucks the model 3 to the SUV. Under the name Model Y, the crossover is intended to make the Californian brand definitively a volume manufacturer from autumn 2020. The cheapest versions cost then in the US converted around 40.000 Euro.

Visually, the new model is based on the Model 3, but is significantly taller, which allows the space inside to increase. The rear trunk in particular has increased and also offers space for an optional third row of seats, which turns the mid-range SUV into a seven-seater. As usual, different drive variants are available, with possible ranges of up to 540 kilometers. When accelerating, the fastest model reaches 100 km/h in 3,4 seconds.

In Germany there will initially be three variants, two of them with two engines and the resulting all-wheel drive: A long-distance version with a range of 505 kilometers (WLTP) for 59.000 euros; The high-performance “Performance” model with the best sprint value and a top speed of 241 km/h is available from 67.000 euros. The preliminary entry-level model has a motor and rear-wheel drive, but has the longest range at 540 kilometers. The price list starts at 55.000 euros. Cheaper basic models with smaller batteries will be available from 2022.

With the Model Y Tesla wants to bring the electric car finally in the middle of society. Together with the sedan model 3 the SUV is to become the bestseller of the brand and further expand its position as an industry leader. Last year, Tesla sold 230.000 cars worldwide, just under 140.000 Model 3. Altogether, the Californians have brought more than half a million electric cars to the customer since its founding, with a million being expected next year.
