Tesla Model Y - Model 3 with more space

The Tesla E car family is finally sexy. At least, as far as the model names are concerned: After S, 3 and X, the Y is now added.

Tesla bucks the model 3 to the SUV. Under the name Model Y, the crossover is intended to make the Californian brand definitively a volume manufacturer from autumn 2020. The cheapest versions cost then in the US converted around 40.000 Euro.

Visually, the new looks at the model 3, but falls significantly higher, which allows the space to grow inside. Above all, the rear trunk is increasing and also offers space for an optional third row of seats, which makes the mid-size SUV the seven-seater. As usual, different variants of the drive are available, the possible ranges are up to 540 kilometers. When accelerating, the fastest model achieves Tempo 100 after 3,4 seconds.

In Germany, there will initially be three variants, two with two engines and the resulting four-wheel drive: A long-haul version with 505 kilometers range (WLTP) for 59.000 Euro; The high-performance model "Performance" with the best sprint value and a top speed of 241 km / h is available from 67.000 Euro. The preliminary entry-level model has an engine and rear-wheel drive, but has the longest range with 540 kilometers. The price list starts at 55.000 Euro. Cheaper basic models with a smaller battery will be supplied later than 2022.

With the Model Y Tesla wants to bring the electric car finally in the middle of society. Together with the sedan model 3 the SUV is to become the bestseller of the brand and further expand its position as an industry leader. Last year, Tesla sold 230.000 cars worldwide, just under 140.000 Model 3. Altogether, the Californians have brought more than half a million electric cars to the customer since its founding, with a million being expected next year.
