Test: Renault Talisman Grand Tour

The French car manufacturer is relying more than ever on protection and strength, but also reliability and chic. He documents this with his representative in the middle class, the talisman, whose name he markets worldwide. The combination variant combines modern design and elegance with driving fun and utility, which it has been presenting since the middle of this year. The Talisman Grandtour uses the "Common Module Family" (CMF) of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. It allows vehicles of different segments to be built based on reused components. The Talisman currently shares large modules with the Renault Espace. Its front optically brings it very close to Renault's Mégane, Scénic and Espace range. In the ten-day test we were able to experience the Grandtour ENERGY dCi 160 EDC with its 1,6 liter diesel. The starting price for the elegant French is 29.450 euros.

French frigate or flagship?
Confident, the proud Frenchman.

Despite the many competitors in the German market, the carmaker from our neighboring country wants to prove itself in the D segment. 2015 solved the talisman its predecessor Laguna after the 3. Generation off. This strengthens Renault its position in the race for the middle class and especially in the estate market. In the year 2015 around 630.000 units were marketed in the segment throughout Europe, proud 240.000 vehicles found their buyers in Germany. As a target group Renault addresses Talisman Grandtour business people who are looking for a prestigious vehicle. In the requirement profile, first and foremost are high quality and dynamic, sovereign performance. So far, the retail sector has been the main retailer, repeatedly earning the highest score of all vehicle classes in the JD Power customer satisfaction survey in the area of quality and reliability.

The talisman cuts a good figure not only in curves, but also in straight-line running.

Dynamically tuned steering

Potholes and bumps on the roads in the Rhine / Main area are hidden in the Talisman Grandtour 1.6 liter diesel. Even with evasive maneuvers he can maneuver impressively easily. This is already noticeable after the first test kilometers. High stability and comfortable handling are likely to be the hallmark of the elegant station wagon. The easy-to-move power steering also gives a good feeling of feedback and allows a stable driving on straight lines and in bends at the same time. Thus, the talisman makes a good figure even when running straight. The dynamic tuning drives again and again to fast cornering.

160 horsepower powered by 380 Newton meters.

ENERGY - French power

The manufacturer's specified standard consumption of 4,6 liters on 100 kilometers is not fully feasible in practice. Our test car demands a good 5,4 liter, which is still a remarkably good value for a vehicle like the estate car talisman. The ENERGY 160 EDC delivers powerful 380 Newtonmeter torque at 1.750 revolutions per minute. The power of the 160 PS powerful engine accelerates the 1,6-tonne car from zero to 9,6 km / h in 100 seconds. In the top are up to 220 km / h in it, the exhaust standard 6b is achieved. The fast-paced six-speed dual-clutch transmission allows sporty-dynamic driving experience without great switching breaks.

The tablet big screen makes the difference.

Large volume ambience

With a vehicle length of 4,87 meters, the Talisman Grandtour will not only accommodate up to five people comfortably. At full seating the station wagon is not stingy even with the trunk volume. 572 liters of maximum capacity are among the best in its class. If the Renault driver folds the entire rear seat, which he can also exercise from the trunk via a push-button, the vehicle opens up a stowage volume of full 1681 liters. Unproblematic transportation even of bulky goods makes this easy. In addition to the 8,7-Zoll-Display, which looks like a tablet, the clear and clearly structured cockpit with the instrument panel as an eye-catcher and control center contributes to the generous sense of space at the front. The combination of controls, which is already characteristic of the French, also enables inexperienced drivers to quickly and intuitively use navigation, telephone, media and on-board computers. Another advantage is the comfortable front seats, which can be adjusted electrically in many ways. In addition, the driver even enjoys a massage if necessary. Lumbar spine and back thanks, especially since the tightly tuned suspension (in "Renault Multi-Sense" adjustable) calls for such support.

A real eye-catcher in terms of design.

Front design at its finest

When it comes to optics, the French designers have placed the side view of the Talisman Grandtour in the typical Renault design with flowing shapes and precisely designed details. The front with its elegant "C" -shaped headlamps, the adapted LED daytime running lights and a typical Renault grill with dominant chrome clasp and large rhombus are an "eye-catcher". In addition, the rear looks visually stretched and very athletic.

Lots of storage space in the Talisman Grandtour.

Equipment rich

The “Multi-Sense” equipment feature, which is basically standard equipment, already includes the individual setting of the vehicle characteristics in the “Life” base. In order to expand this feature, the customer can choose the “4CONTROL” option in the second equipment line, “Intense”, for an extra charge of 1.700 euros. In return, it also receives 19-inch light-alloy wheels, an adaptive chassis and 4CONTROL dynamic all-wheel steering. In the top equipment line "Initiale Paris" tested by us, a BOSE surround system, a head-up display, the electric tailgate with foot sensor and electrical operation of the driver and front passenger seats are added to the standard equipment. The safety equipment includes an emergency brake assistant, reversing camera and a blind spot warning. All of this is included in the offer price of 41.000 euros.

And finally ...

The Talisman looks not only very attractive in the body variant as a station wagon - Grand Tour - and with its typical Renault design offers the status of the French car manufacturer. It also drives like a real Renault: powerful and agile, yet efficient, safe, reliable and self-confident. The driving safety systems on offer once again underline the technological know-how of the French engineers.
