The five secret Porsche prototypes

Every car manufacturer has its secrets in the underground car park, including Porsche. Experiments with concept vehicles that have never seen the natural light of day. In the latest Porsche YouTube series "Top Five", Porsche is now showing its five most secret Porsche prototypes.

Number 5 – Porsche 984

It almost looks as if it were a production vehicle. A roadster with well-designed proportions and a weight of only 880 kilograms. The Porsche 948 should be powered by a 135 hp engine. The top speed was 220 km/h.

The engineers of the Porsche prototypes were looking for the lowest air resistance and a lightweight vehicle. As a prototype, it never made it into series production. But the 984 influenced the construction of the Porsche Boxter.

Number 4 - Porsche Cayenne Cabrio

Each of us knows the Porsche Cayenne. But an SUV convertible from Porsche? It was way ahead of its time, because the prototype was built way before the Range Rover Evoque Cabrio in 2002. The Cabrio reminds us a lot of the "design fail" of Chrysler's PT Cruiser.

The rear of the Cayenne Cabrio has different designs. The front, which the Porsche Cayenne also has, seems a little better. The prototype of the Porsche Cayenne Cabrio leaves a less good impression on us. Luckily, the concept vehicle didn't score with the decision-makers either, so it stayed in the Porsche basement.

Number 3 – Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster Clubsport

The 911 Carrera Speedster Clubsport is a bit sportier. It looks like a homage to bygone 50's racing cars. The club sport was created in 1987. The small wind deflector, which is intended to protect the driver of this Porsche prototype, catches the eye. The Clubsport was the forerunner to the Porsche 911 Carrera Speedster, which was built in different variants in 1989, 1993 and 2010.

Number 2 – Porsche Panamericana

Conceived in 1989 on the occasion of Ferdinand Porsche's 80th birthday, it was a gift to the company's own brand. He also found no way into series production. Its distinctive design features were developed within a few months.

With 250 HP a top speed of only 210 km/h should be reached. However, the roof, which can be removed using the zipper principle, influenced the future Targa models.

Number 1 – Porsche 918 Spyder

The unfinished "Rolling Chassis" comes from 2012. Planned as a plug-in hybrid, the Porsche 918 Spyder delivers 550 hp. It was then presented to the journalists in Weissach to introduce them to Porsche's hybrid drive technology. He was the forefather of the current one Porsche Spyder 918.
