Three million defective vehicles

With hundreds of car models, safety or emissions problems have led to an unplanned workshop visit in the past year.

The number of officially recalled vehicles has increased over the past year. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) asked the manufacturers to repair around 3 million cars. This affected 9 percent more vehicles than in 2019. At 595, the number of product recalls was below the previous year's figure, but above the long-term average. If a keeper does not comply with the multiple request to visit the workshop, the authorities can put the vehicle out of service. In the past year, this was the case around 129.000 times - 127 percent more frequently than in 2019. The majority of the deficiencies were safety risks, the shutdowns due to excessively high emissions were in the four-digit range.
