Frank Stippler and the Audi R8 LMS from Team WRT are on pole!
The twenty first starting positions and the ten first rows of the grid at the 24 Hours in Spa-Franchorchamps will be determined via a “Superpole”. The fastest in this top qualifying? German Frank Stippler in an Audi-supported R8 LMS from the Belgian Audi Club WRT.
The Ingolstadt athlete is followed by the English aristocrat from McLaren, the first race of the new 650 S GT3, piloted in Kevin Estre's Superpole and followed by the Kessel-Ferrari 458, steered by Andrea Piccini on Friday afternoon.
Superpole meant driving a flawless lap in the shortest possible time. What is usually difficult does not become easier under the pressure of the racing event. The two Belgian local favorites Laurens Vanthoor (# 1 Audi Sport Team WRT) and Maxime Martin (# 45 BMW Sports Cup Teams Marc VDS) only came in 6th and 10th and were unable to implement the pressure at the top without a mistake.
Vanthoor's teammate Frank Stippler, on the other hand, had an almost perfect run in the Audi with starting number 2. The Audi Sport Team WRT R8 LMS hit the Ardennes asphalt with a 2'18.130, the fastest race lap since the GT3 competed in Spa-Franchorchamps. Proof of the tough motorsport in the Blancpain Endurance Series and the “Total 24 Hours of Spa” is the fact that the first three cars in Superpole are separated by less than five hundredths of a second. And the five manufacturers within the first ten vehicles are less than six tenths apart from each other.
