Toyota brings more speed in the hybrid - C-HR facelift

Surfboards and SUVs not only share the first letter, but also something that gives them stability in their dynamic activities. What is his Fin's, is the other the spoiler. Glossy black, he should ensure that the newly revised Toyota SUV coupe C-HR (stands for Coupe High-Rider, so a high-legged coupe) with the new gasoline hybrid with full 184 PS, a sprint time of 8,2 seconds and a Peak of 180 km / h does not lose the grip.

Never change a winning team

The facelift of the C-HR, which has now been implemented after three years of production, only very carefully handles the polarizing outer skin. After all, decide about 60% of buyers just because of the look for the Japanese SUV Coupe. A few gentle optical retouches, three new colors. LED light is all around now standard, with the headlights merge daytime running lights and turn signals and form a unit above the main light body. The front lip as vehicle lower edge is painted with the new model year. Basically nothing that gives the C-HR a different look than before.

Customers wanted a stronger hybrid drive

In a sense, Toyota, by far the most expressionist, is also the most successful in one respect: no car with a hybrid drive sold 2019 in Germany better than C-HR in the first four months of the year. To expand this position and on multiple customer request gets the C-HR now a particularly sporty hybrid drive. Toyota Germany hopes for a sales share of around 50 percent for the stronger version, which offers not only its performance with pleasantly quiet acoustics but also excellent fuel economy.

Nickel-metal hydride battery from the Corolla

Compared to the previous hybrid with an output of 122 hp, which remains in the program in addition to the conventional 1,2 liter turbo gasoline engine, the new Hybrid called Dynamic Force, with combined 5,3 liters / 100 km (WLTP), is only 0,2. 122 liters more than the 1,8 hp version with the 2 liter engine as the primary power source. The bottom line is that this means CO108 emissions of just 377 grams per kilometer (WLTP.) Since the C-HR is based on the global Toyota platform for all compact-class vehicles, it was the transplantation of the performance hybrid and a nickel-metal hydride battery possible from the Corolla. This reduces the already tight trunk volume of 19 liters in the Hybrid Dynamic Force by 358 liters to XNUMX liters, but this should hardly really matter in everyday life. A coupé is not a station wagon.

As usual, an eight-inch touch screen sits enthroned on the dashboard

Inside higher quality presentation

Inside, a lot has happened: the soft-touch surfaces reach into the door panels, giving the ambience a more upmarket appearance. Cheap Toyota now really does not want to work, apparently feels the Japanese giant in this field, the hot breath of Korean competition. As in the case of connectivity elsewhere, the standards have been set, which now also bows Toyota and with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Internet top dogs easily and quickly binds as co-pilots.

Fuel saving tips on the hybrid trainer

The updates of the media system have recently come "over the air" in the CH-R via update via the Internet connections. This makes cumbersome downloading of new software obsolete. One of the special features now is the “hybrid trainer”, which analyzes the driving style of the respective user and gives personalized, context-related fuel-saving tips via the “MyT” (“myToyota”) app. With success, because after about 120 km on country roads and motorways in the vicinity of Lisbon, the on-board computer showed a consumption of 5,3 liters and 58 percent purely electric driving style. A clear statement against a plug-in hybrid.

Previous entry-level variant accounts for lack of demand

The basic version of the C-HR previously offered at a price of 22.000 euros is no longer available. The new entry is the equipment line "Flow" with the 116 hp petrol engine for 26.290 euros. The previous hybrid version with the 1,8 liter gasoline engine costs 29.140 euros as “Flow”. The new 2,0 liter gasoline hybrid is neither available in the “Flow” basic version nor in the “Business Edition” (32.790 euros) reserved exclusively for traders, but only in the “Team Germany” version at a price of 33.690 euros.
