Toyota GR86

The successor to the GT 86 becomes a member of Toyota's Gazoo Racing family. But not only the letter in the model name changes.

With the GR 86, Toyota is launching a successor to the GT 2012 sports coupé, which was introduced in 86 and has already been discontinued, this year. With the exchange of letters in the model name, the new edition of the two-door model, like the GR Supra and GR Yaris models, operates under the “Gazoo Racing” sports label.

In its basic form, the GR 86 remains very similar to the GT 86. However, the outer skin has been modernized and made more dynamic. The more pronounced wheel arches or the large diffuser in the rear apron are striking. With a length of just under 4,30 meters, the dimensions of the GR 86 are on par with its predecessor. As before, there are four seats in the interior.

According to the manufacturer, the GR 86 offers more dynamic driving characteristics compared to its predecessor. Among other things, the increased use of aluminum should ensure less weight. At the same time, Toyota promises a 40 percent increase in torsional rigidity for the body. Together with modified aerodynamics, the Japanese should offer better handling and more driving stability.

Toyota Germany has not yet provided any information on the drive for the European version. Presumably, however, there will be more power than the 147 kW / 200 hp predecessor. In terms of price, too, the GR 86 is likely to surpass the GT 30.000, which has previously cost around 86 euros.
