Update: Mitsubishi Space Star - facelift for the entry-level Japanese

A sharper design, an upgraded interior and optimized driving characteristics - the ingredients for the facelift of the Mitsubishi Space Star for model year 2016 are ready. The microcar was turned upside down vigorously for its second half of life, showing its best side. Even bi-xenon headlights are available for the little Japanese. What else the entry-Mitsubishi can do, the following lines show.

The new bumpers with the larger air intakes on the front as well as chrome trim and the optional bi-xenon headlamps with LED parking lights contribute to this. For a more dynamic appearance, the more contoured bonnet in conjunction with the aerodynamic rear spoiler. Added to this are LED taillights and alloy wheels in a new design.

Inside, the Japanese now looks significantly more valuable. So you can now get the microcar with a new leather steering wheel with chrome or piano lacquer applications behind which hide the new instruments. They now look very noble and increase the ambience additionally. Added to this are new, high-resolution displays, which should appeal to improved readability, and seat covers with higher quality.

Two small units work under the short bonnet of the new Mitsubishi Space Star. The 1.0 liter engine generates 71 hp, while the larger 1.2 liter engine provides 80 hp. Both are combined with a five-speed manual transmission. Optionally, you can get a continuously variable CVT transmission for the larger drive, which should contribute to increased comfort. All of this does not exactly suggest that the Japanese are a product of sportiness, but that is not at all bad, after all, not every car has to be an alleged athlete, as it is modern today. For example, the Space Star is stingy when it comes to consumption, which is between 4,0 and 4,3 liters in a third mix. This means that CO2 emissions are below 100 g / km - all due respect. The chassis has been modified so that there is some driving fun. It should now offer more driving fun and handiness with improved suspension comfort at the same time.

On the equipment side, something has also been done: basically divided into three lines - Basic, Plus and Top - the introductory models Intro Edition and Intro Edition + will be added at the start. With the latter, the infotainment system "Smart Link Navigation" is always included and enables smartphone integration either via Android car or Apple CarPlay. It also comes with voice control, TomTom SD card navigation, a Bluetooth hands-free kit, and an audio system with Bluetooth music streaming and a USB port. If that's not enough, you can also enjoy the digital radio, which is controlled together with the other functions via the 6,5 inch touchscreen.

Safety is a big issue, especially for small cars - after all, they generally only have a small crumple zone. That is why the Space Star drives up with the patented RISE body safety structure. Other standard components are six airbags, ABS including a brake assistant, a tire pressure control system, ESP and a traction control. In addition, you can always rely on the small Japanese: a basic price of 9.990 euros includes a five-year new car guarantee including a free mobility guarantee. In the top version for 16.490, of course, too.

Update: Currently Mitsubishi offers the new Space Star for the same price as its predecessor! Let's start with 7.990 €.
