Convertibles are often very expensive. All the more tempting is a used Peugeot 207 CC, which is currently available for little money. But be careful: the little one likes to cause problems.
SP-X / Cologne. Small, charming and really inexpensive for a convertible: the Peugeot 207 CC (2006 to 20015) is as popular as a used car as it was as a new car. But the 2 + 2-seater can denounce the open-top fun with numerous weaknesses.
Body and interior: The 207 convertible is one of the last representatives of the large wave of steel roof convertibles around the turn of the millennium. Thanks to the metal hood, it is protected against winter weather and vandalism, in summer and spring the hard top folds in in around 25 seconds. This works even when driving slowly up to 10 km / h. The downside of the flexible concept: the two rear seats are a better luggage rack and the already small trunk becomes tiny when the roof is open. In addition, there are two other typical weaknesses in the convertible roof: the windscreen, which is drawn far back, disturbs the feeling of being outdoors, and the massive rear looks back.
Engines: Compared to the 207 sedan, the convertible has a significantly more powerful engine - Peugeot didn't even offer the smallest engines for its fun mobile. So it happens that the CC is already well motorized in the basic version, the 1,6-liter four-cylinder (88 kW / 120 PS) developed in cooperation with BMW is easily sufficient, despite the rather high vehicle weight. In addition, it is considered more reliable than the 110 kW / 150 PS (later 115 kW / 156 PS) turbo variant from Peugeot. Switching lazy can also look for the rare automatic version. In keeping with the typical diesel euphoria, there is also a wide range of diesel engines. The 1,6-liter engines cover a range from 50 kW / 68 hp to 82 kW / 112 hp, which could have problems with driving bans in the future, despite the soot filter fitted as standard.
Equipment and safety: convertibles are cars for connoisseurs, not for penny pinchers. The 207 CC does not save on equipment either. The basic model "Filou" should not be chosen anyway, because the "Premium" version with leather steering wheel and air conditioning should already be available for low additional costs. The almost luxuriously equipped "Platinum" model and the "Roland Garros" edition rank for tennis fans. Anyone who lives in the city may be delighted with the city package with parking sensors at the rear and folding mirrors. There were also numerous items on the options list; the wind deflector and a sound system are among the most interesting. The ESP anti-skid device and five airbags ensure safety. Only the limousine passed a Crah test and got full marks.
Quality: Vulnerable base plus sensitive additional technology - the bill for the convertible version of the 207 can be expensive. Even the sedan is not one of the most reliable models in the small car segment and suffers from weaknesses in the chassis, exhaust system and oil leaks on the drive. Then there is the mechanically sophisticated roof, which offers further potential for errors. The most common nuisance are leaks, through which water drips directly onto the seats or initially collects in cavities in order to later flow into the interior. Peugeot offered different solutions at the time, but those interested in buying should definitely check their effectiveness by taking a trip to the car wash. In addition to opening and closing the roof several times, we recommend an extensive test drive, during which rattling noises must be observed. These occur when the pegs between the two roof halves no longer sit properly.
Conclusion: To succumb to the charm of the 207 CC at first glance can be expensive. A few thousand euros are quickly gone, especially for roof repairs. Without extensive testing and driving into the car wash, you should not strike. Just under 4.500 euros should at least be in the budget.
