Full throttle towards e-mobility

Still are Electric Cars consider VW a marginal phenomenon. But VW boss Herbert Diess has sworn the group and its brands to be stronger than before E-mobility to put.

The VW boss Herbert Diess, who was recently confirmed in office for another five years, presented the new future strategy “New Auto” today at the VW general meeting. For the group and for the individual brands, it is clearly aligning the course towards e-mobility by 2030.

As part of the “New Auto” strategy, Audi is to play a leading role as the flagship of the Premium brand group in electrification and digitization. In the Artemis project, Audi is to develop into a premium manufacturer with an e-car range. The luxury brands Bentley, Lamborghini and Ducati will also benefit from Artemis, through which the Group intends to offer the upcoming Audi technology in higher price segments and at the same time benefit from the corresponding economies of scale.

In the Volume brand group, the Group is pursuing the “Accelerate” strategy, which provides for further electrification and digitization of the portfolio. With a wide-ranging ID family, VW aims to become the world market leader in battery-electric vehicles by 2025. The already available series ID.3. and ID.4 will also be ID.5, ID.6 and ID. Buzz put aside. Diess also has ambitious electrification plans for the Seat, Cupra and Skoda brands.

Greater electrification is also planned at VW Commercial Vehicles. The newly introduced T7 is now also available as a plug-in hybrid. Together with the partner Argo AI, the ID. Buzz AD also developed an autonomous shuttle for urban use.

In the Sport brand group, Porsche remains the high-margin workhorse that promises high profitability and growth in the electrical sector as well. The order backlog for the Taycan is four to five months. Bugatti is also heading for an electric future in this group, albeit as part of a new joint venture with Rimac.

Finally, the “New Auto” strategy also envisages a stronger commitment to e-mobility for the Traton commercial vehicle group, with the MAN and Scania brands. 1,6 billion euros are to flow into research and development by 2025. The first successes are already visible with the fully electric MAN Lion's City E.
