Introduction: Nissan Qashqai

It is actually an adjective and wherever it is used it blurs the lines between the facts and what you say. Actually stands for unnecessary relativizations.

Actually I would have been in Madrid and would have the new one Qashqai can drive. But I wasn't, because a nasty cold of a man laid me flat and made the appointment calendar swirl a lot this week.

So here should actually be an introduction to the new Nissan Qashqai - but in fact it is just a commentary on the facts known so far. Just as I could see from the Nissan press releases.

Nissan Qashqai 2014 - the remake of a bestseller?

If more than 8 million units of a car are sold within 1.5 years (Europe), then this should be a clear indication of the vehicle's success. Actually, without the restrictive relativization of the word. The Qashqai 2006 was a bold move by Nissan.

Crossover from England

The Qashqai not only got a name that is difficult to pronounce, which still divides spirits to this day, it is also not a real SUV. But not a station wagon either. He is a crossover. A vehicle with which you want to cover maximum widths of buyer groups. But Everybodys Darling quickly becomes Everybodys fool. Despite knots in the tongue during the pronunciation - the Qashqai and its brother with the additional seats, the Qashqai +2, convinced the customers. And actually the Nissan isn't Japanese at all! There it was again. Actually. Because it is produced in Sunderland in England. Was designed in London and constructed in Barcelona - the Qashqai is therefore much more European than you would think with the name Nissan.

Second generation

The second generation is usually allowed to learn from the mistakes of the first one and then make everything better. However, there were hardly any mistakes in the first generation of the Nissan Qashqai, my Driving report to the first Qashqai provided a clear and, above all, positive picture. The Qashqai knew how to convince in its first generation.

So what can the second generation do better?

In addition to the usual growth, a few centimeters in length (47 mm) and a few centimeters in width, the Qashqai lost in height and now looks crouched, fuller and stronger. He never wanted to let the great off-road hero hang out, so all-wheel drive is only one option.

[one_third] [=” ” ]The new Qashqai is not a facelift, but a completely new development. The basis is a platform that Renault-Nissan calls CMF (Common Module Family). CMF is made up of 5 modules. The engine and cockpit module, the front and rear segments and the electronic equipment. Renault-Nissan wants to save significant construction costs with the help of the CMF. In addition to the Qashqai, the new X-Trail and vehicles such as the upcoming Renault Laguna, Scenic and the new Espace will be based on this platform.

The most important features of the Qashqai include the “elevated” seating position and the additional space available for people who actually want to drive something compact, but on the other hand are flirting with the variability of a station wagon. “Actually” the Qashqai is a mixture of a VW Golf, a station wagon and an SUV. But only actually.

The new Qashqai offers a little more luggage space (now 430 liters, previously 410) and a lot more ambience. This is what the press kit promises. So far, the pictures show a modern cockpit, fittings with clear lettering and a logical design of the operating areas. The leather with the fine double stitching also looks extremely good in the pictures. How it feels will have to be shown later in a test. In principle, the choice of materials - the many hard and dark plastic - was really the main criticism of the "ancient qashqai". If you follow Nissan’s promise and have taken a big step here, the new Qashqai is a tempting proposition. Because the price has been held back.

Minus 2

While getting the predecessor in two sizes, Qashqai and Qashqai + 2, the new Qashqai will have to settle for a wheelbase. Here the manufacturer wants to make the demarcation between Qashqai and the larger Nissan X-Trail a little clearer. The Qashqai is a crossover for five.

From 3.8

The data sheet of the Qashqai 1.5 dCi has an impressive number ready. A standard consumption of only 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers. An extremely impressive figure for a five-seater crossover. But the 1.2 liter gasoline turbo engine can also boast a fabulous value in the NEDC consumption. The 115 hp entry-level petrol engine is specified with 5.6 liters per 100 kilometers. And now I'm not just “actually” sad not to have been there. Because you have to get to the bottom of these consumption values. Should the new Qashqai really be that efficient?

The engines in general

Turbo-charging is common to all four of the current engines, as is the number of cylinders: four in a row. Two gasoline and two diesel engines give future customers a choice. The starting point is the 1.5 liter diesel engine with 110 hp - followed by the 1.2 liter four-cylinder DIG-T with 115 hp. With 130 hp, the 1.6 liter dCi diesel is the next performance level and the preliminary end is the 1.6 DIG-T with 163 hp. But - I am sure - it will be a Qashqai NISMO follow and then you will find 200 to 220 PS in the vehicle registration and under the hood.

Actually cheap

Noticed? Another “actually”. Because you have to be careful with the price, right? Are almost € 20.000 cheap? Actually, if the equivalent is a five-seater crossover with the latest safety technology, economical engine and attractive design. The Qashqai starts as a 1.2 DIG-T with VISIA equipment for € 19.940. Those who drive a lot choose the diesel and start at € 1.5 in the case of the 21.890 dCi. And if you want to “fill the hut”, because you are looking for 19 inch alloy wheels, Bi-LED headlights and 360 ° environment camera stands, who accesses the Qashqai Tekna with the 1.6 liter 130 PS Diesel and gets the all-wheel drive included. At the same time, this option with a listpresentation of 33.450 € is currently the top option.

The all-wheel drive typical of an SUV is currently only available in conjunction with the 1.6 liter diesel, so the Qashqai will not become an off-roader by decree, even in the second generation. And an automatic transmission is currently only available - but not in conjunction with the all-wheel drive - with the 1.6 liter diesel engine. Nissan calls the automatic transmission Xtronic (continuously variable CVT) and promises driving comfort that no CVT has ever delivered. Actually, I should have driven exactly this model in Madrid. As I said, actually. The male cold has laid me flat and so I'm waiting for the next chance to test the new Qashqai.

Until then, I recommend reading the experiences of my “colleagues”:

Björn Tolksdorf has in his driving report on motor-talk written by an eye-opening experience during the test drive:

During our test drive, the Qashqai provides the first aha experience after a few meters: thanks to the standard “Chassis Control”, it drives as safely, with little wobble and sway, as only a few long-legged people in this price range can. Source: MT

[dropcap] B [/dropcap] I would now like to end with: “Actually” I would have really liked to have driven the Qashqai, but sometimes the unforeseen events turn the diary upside down. And "Actually" fits - it really doesn't look like the new Qashqai. The result does not seem to have become that relative. Until you do your own test drive, the only thing left to say is:

The market launch of new Qashqai is now in february!
