Buying a car for fear of contracting the coronavirus

Corona has made buses and trains less attractive. Many households want to invest in automotive alternatives.

The fear of the corona virus makes many Germans think about buying an additional family car. According to a survey by the market watcher DAT, 16 percent of consumers are considering buying another car so that more family members can be “contactlessly mobile”. Compared to the same survey in May, this is an increase of four percentage points.

Overall, fear of the virus has decreased slightly since May. 60 percent generally see a major threat (minus 4 percentage points), 43 percent are specifically very concerned about their own future (minus 6 percentage points). 18 percent feel no fear (plus 2 percentage points).
