Plenty of colors and few chips

It's such a thing with colors, as their different classification by women and men often makes clear. Finding new colors and then naming them has always been a challenge in the industry. The automotive industry is also facing new challenges when it comes to chips. And not because of a too small potato harvest last year.

If you ask a man about the difference between pink and pink, he may find it difficult to recognize you. It is no different with the writer of these lines. The wife is shaken by how ignorant he can be and still knows how to name an estimated 125 shades between pink and pink. Our recently ordered seating is officially in Atalanta cedar. That sounds a lot more expensive than “yellow” - and of course it is. People who are supposed to name paints for automobiles are faced with similar problems again and again. Even for a green that we, as car-savvy people, would quickly and aptly categorize as British Racing Green, there are now a multitude of new names and not only from the brand that made this color popular.
In addition, new colors are constantly being invented. These days we came across the term "moonstone white". Now we do not know what color such a stone of our satellite really is because it is so seldom seen. By investigative reading of the English original of the associated press release, we found out that said moonstone white is a pure invention of German marketing. To the ladies and gentlemen there, a literal translation of “Ceramic white” probably seemed less likely to promote sales. Actually incomprehensible, as “Villeroy und Boch” sells lots of products in this very color.
Speaking of masses. Lots of chips - at least a lot - are now working in our cars. That's nice, because in the best case scenario, it will make the vehicles smarter, recognize dangers early, avoid accidents, become more and more comfortable and, last but not least, more communicative and even more electronic.
Now you can see one or the other development in terms of communication with and through the vehicle for reasons of distraction or because you are simply an old-fashioned boomer yourself, but ultimately the development cannot be stopped. For the automotive industry, however, the increased use of electronics results in new, tell me, challenges. For once, we are not alluding to the software malta that is currently being cured of the Germans' favorite car in its latest expansion stage. And not even on the recall of 150.000 Teslas because of various programming inaccuracies.
No, it's about competition in a very profane way. Because of their new affinity for electronic components, cars today not only compete with each other, but also quite simply with televisions, game consoles and cell phones. The semiconductors used. Apparently there are only five manufacturers of these parts worldwide who can meet the demand industrially. When, due to the Corona crisis, individual car manufacturers reduced their orders in the spring because the forecasts went down, they were then corrected upwards again - as you do with suppliers in this industry - at least in the electronics sector show unsightly consequences. When new game consoles come onto the market just as the auto industry is reducing its orders, production capacity is quickly gone. Result: Long delivery times for many models, especially those that want to score with a lot of electronics and currently even short-time work in some plants - not because of Corona but because of missing parts.
Hundreds of cyclists in the Leipzig area have also complained about missing parts of the larger species in recent years. At least we assume so. Because the Leipzig police had found and probably stolen bikes in their evidence room. That would not be particularly worth mentioning in and of itself, but it nevertheless led to the so-called “bicycle gate” and to a special report by a similar representative of the state parliament.
As loyal consumers of all kinds of television thrillers, we of course know that from time to time, as a precaution, confiscated cocaine or similar stuff is sacrificed and destroyed by the officers using their own bodies. Sometimes it is also passed on to third parties in order to supplement the meager salary a little. But that's pure fiction. In Leipzig, on the other hand, the head of the evidence chamber sold the bikes stored there to colleagues for 25 or 50 euros, depending on their condition. They acknowledged a donation in favor of a fictitious association and quickly had a new used bike. And the evidence room, money in the coffee box. At least we hope for the latter, otherwise everything else would be real fraud and that cannot happen with the German police. Is there anything else? Next week again.
