Clever fueling with Shell Smart Pay

The smartphone is the man's dearest friend and the pockets, whether hand or pants, are indispensable. It has long been no longer just a phone, it's also GPS, baby monitor and wallet. The usefulness of the mobile device has now been recognized by Shell and launched Shell SmartPay. Already in the middle of 2017, the company began its first successful tests in selected cities in Germany. Now, the practical payment service n cooperation with Paypal will be rolled out throughout Germany and allow German citizens to refuel and drive straight back. Without a queue, without annoying waiting. A dream for many German drivers.

Emre Turanli, Marketing Director of the Shell petrol station business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland says: "Shell was the first supplier of fuel in Germany made it possible to pay by smartphone at the pump." This makes the refueling of cars in the future enormously. Turanli uses the following example: "Imagine you are a young mother, you fill up and you have to go to the petrol station to pay - leave your baby alone in the car. Many get a queasy feeling. With Shell SmartPay, you can always stay close to the car and pay with your smartphone. A clear relief even for customers who are in a hurry. Our SmartPay process requires nothing more than a smartphone with an internet connection, the Shell app and a PayPal account. "

Faster to the finish

Shell is one of the country's largest petrol station providers with almost 2.000 stations throughout Germany. The innovative feature is supposed to make refueling even easier in addition to its other offers such as the bonus program and its own refueling stations. In the app it is possible to enter the exact amount of tank and the dispenser then stops automatically then. Only with smaller amounts does it stop a little earlier. "This is a security measure that prevents the column from fueling more than you would actually like to pay." After all: It is only the really fueled amount deducted. The benefits are obvious: payment is not just for the customer, but also for Shell much more practical because it just goes faster. The squeamish children in the back seat do not have to wait so long and in the gas station, the long lines stay out. In addition, the throughput of vehicles per petrol pump should increase significantly.

Big changes to the dispensers are not necessary. The POS systems are already connected to a cloud server that can activate the corresponding columns. Of course, it is still possible to pay for old school at the cash register. After all, Shell still gets the classic tank attendant. A high on the progress, a little Cheers to the good old days.
