Audi RS 3 Sportback - high performance with five doors

Audi now also brings the five-door RS 3 Sportback to the performance level of the sedan. The revised compact sports car based on A3 celebrates its premiere at the Geneva Salon (March 9 to 19). The market launch takes place in August at prices from 54.600 euros, ordering starts in April.

As with the four-door model launched for the first time at the end of 2016, the 3-liter five-cylinder engine in the latest version, which delivers 2,5 kW / 294 PS instead of the previous 400 kW / 270 PS, is now also used in the second body variant of the RS 367. The turbo engine delivers a torque of 480 Nm, which is permanently directed to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The sprint to 100 km / h succeeds in 4,1 seconds, the top speed is limited to 250 km / h, but can be increased to 280 km / h on request. The manufacturer specifies 8,3 liters as consumption.

In terms of price, the five-door model remains 1.300 euros below the 55.900 euros sedan

The chassis was also trimmed for sportiness. A tighter setup including a body that is 2,5 centimeters lower and a widened track should ensure dynamism and stability. The progressive steering with its variable transmission ratio and 19-inch wheels with correspondingly large brake discs are also standard on board. A ceramic brake is also available on request.

Externally, the RS 3 differs from the normal A3, among other things, by a modified front with standard LED headlights, roof edge spoiler and diffuser, as well as large oval tailpipes. The interior, decorated in dark tones, welcomes the driver and front passenger with illuminated door sills with RS 3 lettering. Sports seats in black nappa leather with RS logos in the backrests are standard, as is the electrically extending 7-inch monitor. The centrally positioned driver information system integrates the boost pressure display, oil thermometer and lap timer.

There is a diffuser at the rear

In terms of price, the five-door car remains 1.300 euros below the 55.900 euros expensive sedan. A price premium of around 270 euros separates it from the previous model with 367 kW / 1.000 hp. The main competitors are Mercedes-AMG A 45 (51.051 euros) and BMW M2 (57.500 euros) (Holger Holzer / SP-X)
