Audi RS 4 Avant is more economical in the facelift

Audi has resharpened the RS 2017 Avant, which was launched in September 4. The redesigned front section and the interior with the new MMI Touch operating system should convince buyers. The V6 biturbo petrol engine with 450 hp provides 1900 Newton meters of torque between 5000 and 600 revolutions per minute. Sales in Germany and other European countries will start in October 2019. The new RS 2019 Avant will be available from dealers from December 4. Prices start at 81 euros.

The front section of the new RS 4 Avant has been redesigned. The grill in the middle is wider and flatter compared to the basic model. Like its big RS brothers, the RS 4 Avant also has a three-dimensional honeycomb structure in glossy black. The new honeycomb grille with the RS 4 emblem is inserted directly into the bumper with the large side air inlets and the vertical flaps. Matrix LED headlights can be ordered as an option.

Quattro blisters

The wheel arches with the quattro blisters above are 4 millimeters wider on each side than the Audi A30 Avant. Glossy black design elements that sit directly next to the headlights are intended to support the broad appeal of the new RS 4 Avant. Buyers can choose between the gloss black, matt aluminum and carbon fiber optic packages as well as eight paint colors - including the new plain turbo blue and the new metallic tango red. The range also includes numerous other individual paint finishes, such as Nogaro blue, pearl effect.

With the 2,9-liter TFSI V6 biturbo, Audi Sport is building on the 2,7-liter V6 of the first RS 4 Avant from 1999. The RS 4 Avant accelerates from zero to 4,1 km / h in 100 seconds. The engine has slimmed down 31 kilograms compared to the V8 engine of the predecessor. The two turbochargers are each assigned to a cylinder bank and build up to 1,5 bar boost pressure. With the RS dynamic package, the electronically limited top speed is increased from 250 to 280 km / h. An average consumption of 9,2 liters means a 17 percent reduction in consumption.

RS-specific vote

The high-performance engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic (Tiptronic). The permanent four-wheel drive is tuned rear emphasized, 60 percent of the force land in normal operation on the rear axle. If slippage occurs, the force can be distributed up to 70 percent forward and 85 percent backward. The wheel-selective torque control is active on surfaces of all kinds. In sporty driving style, it brakes the inside wheels minimally via the Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC) and thus increases the drive torque to the wheels on the outside of the curve with the higher wheel load. An optional Quattro sports differential with RS-specific tuning ensures an even more dynamic response when turning in and out of corners.

For an even more agile driving behavior, in addition to the standard lowering of seven millimeters from the S4, the RS Sport Suspension Plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) is also available on request. This integrated roll and pitch compensation consists of a special damper system that counteracts the movements of the vehicle body without delay, without the use of electronics. With the help of the Audi Drive Select, the driver can influence the damper detection in three stages and thus individualise the driving experience. As an alternative to the standard electromechanical power steering, an RS-specific dynamic steering system is also available. The dynamic steering varies its translation by up to 100 percent.

The driver can personalize his personal driving experience via the standard driving dynamics system. Five profiles are available: Comfort, Auto, Dynamic and the individually configurable RS-specific modes RS1 and RS2. The driving dynamics system Audi drive select influences, among other things, the engine and transmission management, the steering assistance, the chassis, the dynamic steering, the Quattro sports differential, the engine sound and the characteristics of the automatic climate control system. The self-configurable mode RS2 is specially designed to quickly influence the electronic stabilization control ESC by pressing a button.

Of course with RS ceramic brakes

From the factory, the new RS 4 Avant rides on 19-cast aluminum forged wheels with 265 / 35 tires. On request, various 20-inch designs are available, including a new full-surface in bronze matt-painted Vollfräsrad in five-arm design. For a superior deceleration behavior provide strong RS steel brakes with perforated composite discs. Its diameter is 375 millimeters at the front axle and 330 millimeters at the rear axle. The six piston calipers with RS emblem are painted black, optionally red. Upon request, particularly stable RS ceramic brakes work on the front axle. The saddles are available in red, gray or blue.

The interior of the Audi RS 4 Avant is black. LED light guides can illuminate it in up to 30 different colors. There are also illuminated door sills with RS-4 logos, as well as RS logos on the center console as well as on the armrests, belts and the floor mats. The steering wheel, selector lever and knee pads are made of Alcantara with red contrasting stitching.

The 10,1 inch MMI touch display is the center of the new operating system. With acoustic feedback, the MMI touch display takes over the functions of the previous rotary / push button on the center tunnel console. With the help of the "RS Monitor" display, the driver receives an overview of the temperature status of the drive components, the maximum g-acceleration values and information about tire pressure and temperature. In the Audi Virtual Cockpit, special RS displays provide information about tire pressure, torque, power, engine oil temperature, lap time measurements, acceleration measurements and g-forces. The shift light display prompts the driver to upshift when the engine speed limit is reached. Audi Connect and Audi Connect Plus provide online services, including car-to-X services that make use of the swarm intelligence of the Audi fleet.

The athlete for everyday life

The RS 4 Avant offers the same suitability for everyday use as the A4 Avant basic model. The luggage compartment is 495 liters, with the rear seat back folded down and loaded up to the roof it increases to 1495 liters. The luggage compartment lid and the luggage compartment cover have an electric drive as standard. A sensor control for opening and closing the boot lid is available as an option, and there is also an optional towing device that unlocks electrically at the push of a button.
More than 30 driver assistance systems are combined in the two packages "Tour" and "City". Including the adaptive driver assistant including stop & go function for automatic distance control, an intersection assistant, a lane change warning or a curb warning.
