It has been many days since my last real driving report. All cars have become the same, and the differences can hardly be experienced thanks to perfect platform technology. At some point you inevitably come to the end; It can't get any better. The perfect automobile seems to have reached its zenith. And then the RS e-tron GT will be in your yard.

Cynics would say the RS e-tron GT is just a Porsche Taycan. Just? When was the last time a Porsche ancestry was a flaw? And no, you have to completely part with the Porsche Taycan anyway in order to appreciate the RS e-tron GT. Sure, both are based on the same platform - baptized PPE and that stands for “Premium Platform Electric” and in the end is a construction kit for big graduate children. But Audi has created something completely new with the RS E-tron GT. An electric vehicle for people who never wanted to drive an electric vehicle. An electric car, so little electric - that petrolheads click their tongues.

A completely new era begins for Audi with this model. I dare to say that the RS e-tron GT, together with its weaker brother, the e-tron GT, occupies a position that, if measured by relevance, would be the legendary V8 (D11), the aluminum Audi A2, the S1 Sport-Quattro and the introduction of the 5-cylinder TDI are subsumed. The e-tron GT is a beacon of future mobility. A mobility that can continue to be fun. But slowly, one after the other.

AUDI RS e-tron GT - The full technology attack and yet completely normal in the cockpit

The e-tron GT was the first e-car from Audi in which no loans for the structure and platform were taken from the familiar modular system. The entire basis of the vehicle is newly developed and only developed for e-vehicles. The large 93 kWh battery (gross) sits deep under the vehicle with its 33 cells, screwed in extra stable and not only ensures a low center of gravity, but also an enormous rigidity of the vehicle. Four coolant circuits take care of the 33 cell modules for perfect air conditioning. Sometimes the waste heat is dissipated, sometimes the cells are preheated. A lot of “power” can be transported in the 800 volt high current network of the e-tron GT. This is not only an advantage when charging, it lets the two electric motors rotate vigorously with up to 646 hp boost power. In the boost, 830 Nm of torque are also available from the first meter. The e-tron GT does not reveal too much of the e-car magic in the interior and in the cockpit. On the contrary, hardly anything indicates the state-of-the-art technology - everything is as always for the pilots in the e-tron GT.

Perfect workmanship on a first-class level. You are welcome to use the surcharge list again and equip the e-tron GT like a private space capsule on the level of kings and emperors.

The e-tron GT avoids that "one pedal”Drive, recuperates better by pressing the brake pedal and, depending on the mood, using a paddle on the steering wheel. Fancy animations for drive technology are just as rare on board as classic vibrations. The e-tron GT are NVH issues completely strange. As a customer of a previous Audi S8, RS7 or similar model, you get used to the world of tomorrow in a playful and unusually fast manner.

Within 3.3 seconds to 100 km / h are one thing, but the way you perceive the development of power is from a world of its own. Depending on the engine speed, load, speed and some other parameters, an artificial sound is played which - like the design of the cockpit - especially picks up the drivers of classic GT vehicles with internal combustion engines. But even e-car fans will quickly find the Audi future appealing to the perfectly mixed soundtrack. And it goes perfectly with the tight pull on your own facial wrinkles as soon as you let the ion currents flow. The forces acting horizontally on the body are impressive and can be called up over and over again, completely seamlessly. After the 10th escapade between 0 and 100 km / h at the latest, every petrol freak is converted and swears eternal loyalty to the electrified god of thunder.

AUDI RS e-tron GT - it just conjures up its 2,3 tons

Nobody expected that you would not feel a weight of 2.3 tons as soon as you turn. Especially when the curve is jagged - but the RS e-tron GT works with the fully networked chassis platform, its three-chamber air suspension and the advantage of an extremely sensitive electric all-wheel drive on the spheres of new driving dynamics. Safe - the huge wheels with specially designed for vehicles like the e-tron developed Goodyear sports tires also contribute to this perception of an unexpected lightness - and there is no weakness to be found on the brakes side either. The RS e-tron GT with the ceramic disc, which is subject to a surcharge, is available at any time without blinking its eyelashes. Audi gives the future owner of the RS e-tron GT a choice. Classic steel brakes for everyday pilots, tungsten carbide for people who never want to clean their rims again, or the ceramic disc used in the test vehicle: a hammer tool when it comes to negative G's.

AUDI RS e-tron GT - The new benchmark for charging performance

The 93 kWh battery, which is 85 kWh net, not only sets the bar high for the weight of individual components, it also needs to be fed quickly. Thanks to the 800 volt technology, AUDI has given the PPE platform a charging option of currently up to 270 kW. If you are at the right charging station, you can fill the 33 cell modules with new energy for another 100 hundred kilometers within a few minutes. Classic order of magnitude for e-vehicles, the value of 20 to 80% capacity. Here the e-tron GT scores with a value of just under 20 minutes. This means that the idea of ​​taking a pee break to bunker is finally a reality.

AUDI RS e-tron GT - The future is tactical green

The tactical green test car shows the current state of the art. It impresses as a GT for the long haul, it loads at a never-before-seen speed and it pushes performance onto the road for which you have always had to be on the road in this price range. In the end, the RS-e-tron GT is one thing above all else: a convincing performance - and a poster dream vehicle for the next generation of children's room walls.
