BMW Connected: Individually put on the road

Digital networking is a very big topic in the field of mobility. BMW has been networking drivers and vehicles with ConnectedDrive for years and is now bringing the next step onto the market in August this year. With the launch of BMW Connected, BMW is now presenting a holistic digital concept that supports individual mobility and does so seamlessly. On the basis of a flexible platform, the Open Mobility Cloud, the vehicle is seamlessly integrated into the user's digital life via several touchpoints such as the iPhone and Apple Watch. In the first step, this includes, for example, digital offers and services that should simplify the daily planning of trips and appointments. Stress-free and punctual arrival should be the goal here.

"In the next few years, digitization will significantly change how we use the car: we will experience digital services that fully interconnect us and our world, on the move, like home. The vehicle becomes a smart device; intelligently networked, seamlessly integrated and perfectly attuned to the individual needs of each user. We demonstrate this claim with the first version of BMW Connected, "explains Dieter May, Senior Vice President of Digital Services and Business Models at the BMW Group.

For now, the service will be made available to Apple iPhone users. These can then start immediately after registration. Here, mobility-relevant information such as addresses and arrival times from calendar entries and, based on real-time traffic information, optimal departure times are displayed. Even interesting 'point of interests' can be saved and later integrated into the BWM navigation system. In the case of BMW electric or hybrid vehicles, relevant data such as range or battery level are also included in the travel planning. BMW Connected and the functions it contains are constantly being developed further and adapted to the needs of the customers. At the same time, the functions of existing apps from BMW ConnectedDrive, such as BMW Remote or BMW Connected Classic, are merged into the digital world of BMW Connected. After the market launch, BMW Connected is available as a free download in the Apple App Store and can be used in BMW vehicles with the optional "ConnectedDrive Services" option.
