The heavy weight of over two tons is not felt, especially not when extras such as roll stabilization and mitlenkende rear wheels are on board.

Their share of agility certainly has the engines. For launch in December of X5 starts with us with two diesel units and a petrol engine. All three are in-line six-cylinder, all are coupled with an eight-speed automatic, all have four-wheel drive. Even the entry-level compression ignition system xDrive 30d with 195 kW / 265 PS is easily enough for all daily needs. That's hardly surprising. Its character and design - every piece of sheet metal is new, by the way - has been retained by the X5 and has been improved in many ways at the same time.

As a sporty alternative, the M50d is intended. The three-liter is here ventilated by four turbochargers. Accordingly, the power increases to 294 kW / 400 PS, the maximum torque on 760 Newtonmeter. For traditional petrol advocates, the xDrvie 40i is recommended. The silky soft three-liter Reichensechser developed 250 kW / 340 PS. On the beefy eight-cylinder (xDrvie 50i), which undoubtedly fits well with the character of the X5 and is initially offered only in America, European customers will probably have to wait a while yet. But he should come, promises the marketing of BMW. Next year you want to let two other diesel follow, the rear-drive sDrive 25d and the xDrive 40d.

Also on the subject of alternative propulsion, Bayern hold back. Not untalented shows the new X5 on loose terrain. Although gravel and sand may play less of a role in Germany, they can do so in other countries.
