Most affordable electric car for the city - Seat Mii electric

Now seriously. What is stopping us from finally buying an electric car? The price? Not at all. The Seat Mii electric is available for 20.650 euros. With the help of the environmental bonus increased to 6.000 euros, this makes less than 15.000 euros. This puts it ahead of the VW e-up! and Skoda Citigo the cheapest electric car currently available in Germany. As the former Seat boss Luca de Meo had predicted, the Stromer would be affordable for everyone.

260 km range ideal for commuting even in winter

But what about the range? The Spanish Volkswagen subsidiary promises 260 kilometers in one go for a fully charged Mii electric (according to WLTP). That's enough for daily commuting - with a range cushion even in battery-unfriendly temperatures. But if you want to take the little Spaniard to his home country, you have to plan well and have plenty of time. While the number of public charging points in Germany was already 2019 at the end of 24 - that is almost 000 percent more than in the previous year - the Spanish supply network becomes thinner the further south you penetrate, especially in regions outside of major cities.

One hour charging time at DC quick charging station

In the Spanish capital Madrid - a test field for innovative mobility - around 630 charging stations for 2.700 electric cars, 6.000 e-motorcycles, 2.500 electric bicycles and almost 10.000 e-scooters are waiting to be used. Our polar white Mii Electric is now suckling at a charging station, which is available to us for test purposes on site, but with which we did not come from Germany. At a DC quick charging station with 40 kW charging power, the battery can be charged to 600 percent in just one hour using the optional CCS adapter (80 euros extra charge). When connecting to a wallbox with three-phase alternating current and a charging capacity of 7,2 kW, you have to invest four hours, 12-16 hours at a normal 2,3 kW socket (charging cable plus 175 euros).

Seat adjusts the combustion engines on the Seat Mii

From the outside, the electric Mii differs little from the previous models with combustion engines, which Seat discontinued with the appearance of the Mii electric. If times change, then consistently. Only if you look closely will you discover an “electric” lettering on the rear and an “electric” sticker on the side. Inside, we like the chic, subtly dashed light dashboard, while the cockpit is dominated by plenty of hard plastic, which is due to the price. The holder for a smartphone above the control island for air conditioning and rear window heating allows the conclusion that Seat does not offer an on-board navigation system for the Mii electric. That makes sense from a cost point of view. The fact that the smartphone docked for orientation occupies the only USB port in the vehicle is particularly displeasing to the front passenger, who urgently needs to charge his device.

Three options for saving while driving

The driver meanwhile looks at classic analogue round instruments with information that the Stromer is the most economical way to travel in the blue range between 20 and 80 km / h - who would have thought that - when is the recuperation process and how much energy is still in the tank. A small display under the speedometer shows the remaining range, consumption or speed. Classic the key instead of a start button. There are three options for saving while driving, the Eco and Eco + selection buttons, in which the performance of the consumers (air conditioning and engine) are reduced in stages. In addition, a lot of braking energy can be converted in the one-stage automatic via position "B", the air conditioning and engine are not affected, the car only brakes significantly when the accelerator is no longer accelerated.

212 Newton meters are immediately at work

On the country roads around Madrid, the thought of optimizing consumption is lost. The Mii electro agile, weighing just 83 kilograms, is 1.160 hp and is in no way underpowered. The top speed of 130 km / h is now hardly within reach. The 212 Nm of torque - typically electric cars - are immediately available at every traffic light. The Mii electric sprints from 3,9 to 0 km / h in 50 seconds, it takes 12,3 seconds to get from 0 to 100 km / h. However, a look at the drastically shrinking remaining range quickly put an end to the dedicated pressure on the "accelerator pedal".

The strengths are played out in the city

In a city like Madrid, the small car then shows its full potential. You don't have to shy away from narrow streets around the unfortunately completely parked Palacio Real with the almost 3,60 meter long Mii. With a width of 1,65 meters, it still squeezes through almost everywhere, the turning circle of 9,8 meters also allows a reversal maneuver on the open road without much back and forth. Very practical because the navigation via the app only works insufficiently and after numerous Try and Error "Google Maps" then finally dictated sensible ways. Ultimately, the on-board computer shows an average consumption of 14,6 kilowatt hours, the data sheet states 12,7 - 12,9 kWh. We would therefore have a range of around 220 kilometers, according to Seat, up to 258 kilometers should be possible in pure city operation. Seriously: the Seat Mii is an ideal city car with a clean vest.
