City SUV with a French flair

Hyundai will expand its range with a fifth SUV in the coming year. Access should be below the previous entry-level model.

Hyundai rounds off its SUV range at the bottom. For the first half of 2021, the Koreans have now announced the small crossover Bayon, which should be classified below the compact Kona and Tucson models. Unlike most of the larger models, the namesake is not an American, but a European city - the French Bayonne. Accordingly, the model is primarily intended for the local market.

Below the Kona there is still space at Hyundai, as a look at the sister brand Kia shows. This is offered by the technically simpler and only slightly smaller Stonic model, which is based on the Rio small car. In addition to the Kona, Hyundai currently has three other SUV models in its range, the compact Tucson, the mid-range Santa Fe and the fuel cell car Nexo.
