Digital driver's license

The digital driver's license is supposed to make life easier for forgetful drivers. The Minister of Transport's idea is not all friends.

A slim majority of Germans reject the digital driver's license. In a survey by the online platform "Autoscout24", 51 percent of the participants spoke out against the introduction planned by the Federal Ministry of Transport. Only 44 percent are available for a driver's license on smartphones and the like.

Women and the elderly are particularly skeptical. 57 percent of women and 58 percent of drivers over the age of 50 are against the digital driving license. Only 37 percent of this population group are in favor. The skeptics are particularly concerned about data protection, counterfeit protection and the need to own a smartphone.

The Federal Ministry of Transport expects the digital driver's license to complement the paper format. If you don't have the classic “rag” with you, you should be able to show it on your mobile phone during controls. It is not yet clear when an introduction could take place.
