Twilight of the Gods? Nissan participates in the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation

Alliances are commonplace in the modern automotive industry. A possibly extremely exciting and promising alliance has emerged this afternoon (Tokyo time). The Nissan Group, which has also had a strategic alliance with Renault for 17 years, will acquire 34% of the shares in Mitsubishi Motors (MMC).

E-power alliance, gods twilight for the automotive energy transition?

Renault-Nissan and Mitsubishi have mutually agreed to work together after the share takeover in the amount of 237 billion YEN (1.6 billion euros), especially in the areas of purchasing, vehicle platforms and R&D. This creates massive synergies for both sides. Both Nissan and Mitsubishi spoke out in favor of a consistent e-mobility strategy a long time ago. At Nissan, the fully electric vehicle LEAF leads the ranking of the best-selling electric cars in many individual markets. With the i-MiEV, Mitsubishi has not only brought the first mass-produced e-car to dealerships, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is also the first SUV with useful plug-in hybrid technology.

With this cooperation, two electric mobility experts find each other. The collaboration with Renault-Nissan can also provide Mitsubishi Motors with new perspectives in the model range.
