E-car quota

The full plug-in hybrid program pays off: Volvo and Daimler lead the ranking of e-car brands, at least in relative terms.

Volvo is the market leader in Germany for electrically powered cars when it comes to the proportion of electric vehicles in the brand's range. Every third new registration of the Swedes in September was a plug-in hybrid or a pure e-mobile, according to statistics from the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). Daimler follows in second place with 30 percent. Like Volvo, the Stuttgart-based company mainly has plug-in hybrids in its range, plus some e-mobiles, such as the Smart and Polestar subsidiaries.

In third place is Kia with 27 percent e-share. With their all-electric cars and several plug-in hybrids, the Koreans also have a share of electricity well above the industry average of 16 percent. In the overall balance of the current year Kia is with 19 percent E share ahead of Daimler with 16 percent. From this perspective, too, Volvo takes the lead with 27 percent. The industry average in the first nine months was 10 percent. Pure e-car brands like Tesla do not play a role in these statistics.
