Electric vans

The diesel remains the dominant engine in delivery vans. But the electric drive is catching up.

Electric drives are also growing in the delivery van segment. According to the industry association ACEA, 28.597 purely battery-powered light commercial vehicles were registered in the EU last year, 26 percent more than in the previous year. The number of hybrid models increased by 175 percent to 12.698 units. The market shares of both types of electrified drive were 2 percent and 0,9 percent, respectively. The most important engine remains the diesel with a market share of 92,4 percent; However, new registrations fell in the Corona year by 17 percent to 1,33 million units.

The largest markets for purely electric vans in the EU were Germany with 8.830 new registrations and France with 9.209 units. Large manufacturers of the corresponding vehicles such as Renault, PSA and Daimler are also located in both countries. Other important markets are Sweden, Ireland and the Netherlands. Battery transporters, on the other hand, hardly play a role in the eastern EU countries or in Greece and Cyprus.
