Ferrari electric sports car is coming in 2025

Ferrari CEO John Elkann gives a clear “GO” for a Ferrari electric sports car

Now it's out, Ferrari will build the first electric Ferrari by 2025. Until recently, the topic of electrification was still a big taboo at Ferrari. Interim boss John Elkann officially announced at an investor meeting that the Italian carmaker would like to present a fully electric model by 2025.

"You can be sure that we at Ferrari will do everything we can for such a milestone in Ferrari history," said the 45-year-old last Thursday.

John Elkann is the chairman of the supervisory board of the auto group Stellantis and Ferrari. He has been President of Ferrari since July 2018.

How times are changing at Ferrari. once existed Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, former Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fiat Group and President of Ferrari, gave a clear "no" and decided against building an electric sports car a few years ago.

According to Ferrari, there have also been no decisive signals from customers for a purely electric sports car to date.

First hybrid, then electric

Until recently, there were concerns at Ferrari that battery technology would need more development time. They wanted to gain experience with hybrid technology first. The Ferrari SF90 Stradale was presented as the first result for a plug-in hybrid.

Many luxury manufacturers and competitors are going the route of integrating an electric drive in their vehicles in the medium term. According to Bentley, there will only be electrically powered luxury automobiles by 2030. Lamborghini is also thinking about electrifying their super sports cars.

Therefore, Ferrari will no longer be able to close its eyes to a purely electric sports car. This will also be the reason why Ferrari CEO John Elkann is now giving a clear signal for a fully electric Ferrari model.
