First legal LED retrofit lamp

For a number of years it has been possible to order LED retrofit sets for car headlights on the Internet. However, their installation was illegal. Osram now offers legally compliant technology for the first time.

Converting car headlights from halogen to LED technology is now also legally possible. Night Breaker LED H7 is the name of the conversion kit from the automotive lighting experts Osram, which has been officially approved by the Federal Motor Transport Authority and which allows lighting elements to be easily replaced. The change, which usually takes a few minutes, can also be done on your own.

Durable and energy saving

At around 130 euros, however, the light set is comparatively expensive. As a rule, you only pay a fraction for a set of classic halogen H7 lights. In return, however, Osram promises a five times longer service life and lower energy consumption. In addition, the LED light offers safety advantages compared to halogen technology: According to Osram, the LED light is up to three times brighter than the statutory minimum requirement, it is also comparable to daylight and ultimately ensures strong contrasts and a long range.

So far, however, the approval for the dipped beam only applies to certain vehicle models. These currently include Ford Mondeo, BMW 2 Series or Audi A3 and A4. Osram intends to expand its range to other series with ongoing tests and approval processes.
