Insuring a sports car properly - a few tips

If you have invested money in a high-priced sports car, you understandably want it to be well protected. It must be clear to every buyer from the outset that this is not exactly cheap. Properly insuring a sports car also means comparing many types of insurance. This is the only way for the owner to find the perfect all-round protection for himself and his vehicle.

Because while the prices of insurers for small cars and "normal" vehicles have often fallen in the past, the policy for a thoroughbred athlete can definitely cost money. Of course, this also applies to maintenance and service. So just the small maintenance (every 30.000 kilometers) beats for one Porsche Cayenne with around 600 euros to book.

Nevertheless, one or two euros can also be saved on policies for vintage cars or sleek sports and super sports cars. In contrast to monthly installments, the contribution can be reduced simply by paying annually.

In addition, there are so-called individual features in every tariff if you want to insure a sports car properly. This includes information about the owner himself (does he drive alone?), but also the presence or absence of a garage. After all, the risk of the car suffering storm or hail damage can be drastically reduced with a secure parking space.

In this respect, insurers reward a garage with reduced rates. However, being tied to a workshop or having completed driving safety training can also reduce the contributions by a decisive percentage point. Of course, this applies to every vehicle, even the small car or station wagon. However, it is easy to understand that a safe parking space for premium brands and luxury limousines is becoming almost indispensable.

Special insurance for very special vehicles

Indeed, right here, at vintage cars, collector's vehicles and limousines from the upper luxury segment, so-called special insurances are often offered. Some of these are even individual tariffs with optimized insurance protection and sophisticated coverage concepts.

No wonder. After all, there is one McLaren no car "off the shelf". Nevertheless, a lockable garage can of course also – or especially (!) – be considered as a cost-reducing factor for such luxury cars.
In addition, it is well known that many classic cars or sports cars are often only registered during the summer months and/or have rather low annual mileages.

In fact, when it comes to luxury limousines, sports cars and valuable vintage cars, the special features often outweigh them, which then also lead to very special tariffs. Of course, this is all the more true for pure collector's vehicles, which often have no registration at all, but still need certain (insurance) protection in their garage or private showroom. Clear communication with the insurance company is essential!

It is therefore important, especially in the segment of collector's vehicles and luxury limousines, to have clear agreements between the owner and the insurer. Because there are definitely companies that don't (want to) insure a Ferrari or Lamborghini in the first place.
