It is progressing

E-cars brauchen charging stations. The number is now steadily increasing, but it still has to increase significantly.

The expansion of the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in Germany is progressing. By June, 2.224 new charging stations had gone online, according to a Statista graphic based on data from the Federal Network Agency. This means that just as many charging stations should go into operation this year as in the previous year (4.656).

In 2016 there were only 1.181 new charging stations, and in the following year almost twice as many (2.035). In 2018, the number of new installations doubled again to 4.110 units. The best year for expansion so far was 2019 with 5.025 new charging stations.
There are currently almost 21.000 charging stations in Germany, of which almost 3.200 are fast charging stations. Together they have around 42.000 charging points.

According to a current study by the national charging infrastructure, 2030 publicly accessible charging points would have to be available in Germany by 440.000 so that the 15 million e-cars forecast by then can be charged.
