Lamborghini Hybrid Super Sports Cars - The Future?

Lamborghini is currently talking about the future of the Aventadors and Huracans. These are to be replaced by a new Lamborghini hybrid supercar between 2020 and 2022. At least that's what the CEO of Lamborghini, Stefano Domenicali, confirmed in an interview with the British Top-Gear magazine.

With this model, Lamborghini wants to join the ranks of its competitors, some of whom, as with the Porsche Spyder 918, with hybrid technology on the roads of the world.

The Future - The Lamborghini Hybrid Supercar

Maurizio Reggiani, Lamborghini chief technology officer, said. “V10 and V12 engines will also be used in the next generation, but supported by hybrid drives. The bulls can then also be driven electrically over a certain range. This should help us to reduce average emissions.”

“The biggest issues are weight and battery placement,” says Reggiani. “The next Lamborghini will be much quieter in appearance. But if you put your foot down, its normal engine will come to life and the typical Lamborghini sound will be heard again.”

In the future, battery technology will continue to improve and the use of carbon fiber will increase even more. Many techniques will help optimize the weight to power ratio. Lamborghini technicians are already well into the development of the upcoming hybrid models.

But Domenicali is already thinking ahead: "By 2026, the technology will be so far that we can present a purely electrically powered Lamborghini. A good example of this is the Lamborghini Third Millennium.” “For us, hybrid vehicles are an important first step in this direction,” Domenicali continues.

Lamborghini hydrogen-powered supercar

“Our engineers are currently not only working on solid-state batteries. They are also considering a supercar powered by hydrogen. If you want to appeal to new and future customers, you also have to think about this type of drive technology,” says the Lamborghini CEO.

A hydrogen-powered super sports car seems to be right at the top of Lamborghini's to-do list. Apparently, the Italian sports car manufacturer is working intensively on this drive technology.

However, it must be taken into account here that the production and generation of electricity are very loss-intensive at the current technical level. Hydrogen-powered vehicles require about 2,2 times more energy than an electric vehicle for the same distance.
