Manthey - King of the Nürburgring

Advertorial ad
The second highlight of the season of the VLN Championship starts at the Nürburgring next weekend. Next to the 24h race is the 6-hour race the event with the greatest motorsport magic.

King at the Nürburgring - Michelin Roadstories

The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the most spectacular race track in the world. For over 23 kilometers it leads like a roller coaster through the forests of the Eifel. On no other racetrack in the world are there more racing cars at the same time than on the one named “Green Hell” by Jacky Stewart. It is a mecca for motorsport fans. And it's a man's living room:

Olaf Manthey

A name familiar to everyone on the ring. As a racing driver, he got into a Simca in mountain and circuit races. Later followed Ford Escort, BMW 1974 CSI and the legendary Mercedes-Benz 635 E 190 2.5V EVO II. Overall, Olaf Manthey won 16 VLN race on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

He was race director for the Persson team in motorsport and from 2001 onwards, as team boss of Manthey-Racing, drove two CLK-DTM-Mercedes.

But Manthey always celebrated the greatest successes on a different brand from Stuttgart. His team won the Porsche Cup in 1997 and 1998 and the GT classification of the Le Mans 1999h in 24.

Passion 24h race

At the Nürburgring Nordschleife, it took a long time for the Olaf Manthey team to celebrate their first 24-hour success. But afterwards it was as if a dam had broken. 2006 - victory at the 24h at the Nürburgring. Likewise in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Winning the 24-hour race is not a result of chance. It is the result of preparation, team perfection and the passion of everyone involved. And this video from Michelin Roadstories shows very well how Olaf Manthey “ticks”:

Olaf Manthey, the man with the characteristic mustache, is a persuader. A motorsport professional who lives out his passion on the racetrack as a team boss and gives the Zuffenhausen sports car the right flavor in everyday work.

Team boss, racing driver, successful entrepreneur - and an original Nürburgring.

Those who have not yet dealt with the VLN should take advantage of the coming weekend and watch the 6-hour race in the Eifel! And stop by in the pit lane. Olaf Manthey is reluctant to sign autographs (he's too humble for that!) - but if you ask him nicely 😉
