New PHEV entry-level models from BMW

Plug-in hybrids are in demand because of the generous funding and thus lower prices. With the new PHEV versions 320e and 520e, BMW is now also meeting the customer in terms of price.

BMW is expanding its range of drives for the 3 and 5 series with the new plug-in hybrid version 20e. It combines a 120 kW / 163 PS two-liter petrol engine with an electric motor. Together, the two units provide a system output of 150 kW / 204 PS and 350 Newton meters of torque. The double heart is basically combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive; all-wheel drive can also be ordered as an option for the 3 Series Touring alone. The fastest variant is the 320e sedan, which can sprint to 7,6 km / h in 100 seconds and go a maximum of 225 km / h. All body variants can reach 140 km / h in pure electric mode.

The plug-in hybrid is combined with a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery. According to the WLTP measurement, the 3-series sedan can travel 48 to 57 kilometers, in the case of the 520e Touring it is 45 to 51 kilometers. Charging is possible at a household socket, wallbox or public charging station. However, the maximum charging power is limited to 3,7 kW. Filling the battery from 0 to 100 percent therefore takes 3,6 hours, according to BMW. Thanks to the traction battery being placed under the seat bench, the luggage volume of the 20e versions is marginally reduced.

With the drive variant available from March, the plug-in hybrid entry-level price for both series will decrease. For the 320e, 47.450 and 49.000 euros are called, for the 5 Series it is 53.700 and 55.900 euros for the Touring. The 3 Series Touring with xDrive costs 51.500 euros. The innovation bonus varies. The 3-series versions are 6.750 euros, in the case of the 5-series, however, 5.625 euros.
