News: Alfa Romeo plans - diesels remain important

After the market launch of the new mid-size sedan Giulia comes along Alfa Romeo the model offensive continues quickly. The long-awaited SUV will be introduced and launched on the market at the end of this year, said Alfa- and Maserati boss Harald Wester at the Geneva Motor Show. The successor to the Giuletta will follow in 2017. However, he left it open whether the Giulietta, the compact class offer of the Italians, will come on the market as a five-door sedan with a hatchback design or as a classic sedan. The latter offers advantages in the non-European markets, said Wester. This will be followed by a crossover in the compact segment in 2018. The Mito compact car, which Alfa has just revised, should not receive a successor.

The Italians will continue to rely on diesel engines, particularly for the European market. There are three of them (150 HP, 180 HP, 210 HP) to choose from in the Giulia. The 132 kW / 180 PS variant emits 99 grams of CO2 and consumes 3,8 liters per 100 kilometers. In Maserati limousines, too, customers in Europe, like the German premium brands, predominantly order diesel engines.
