News: BMW wants to enlarge the 7 series family - is a luxury coupe coming?

To position itself more broadly against the luxury models from Mercedes, wants BMW offer more vehicles in the luxury class in the future. According to the "Handelsblatt", an expansion of the seven-series is being examined with reference to corporate groups. The 7er is conceivable as a coupe that could be based on the 8er. From 1989 to 1999 this was the sporty flagship of Munich and had an eight or twelve cylinder engine under the sheet.

BMW has already been tried and tested in expanding the product range. For example, the 2013er has been available since 4, which is strictly the Coupé, Grand Coupé or Cabriolet of the 3er. The numbers game works for the carmaker, because customers buy the model and pay the surcharge of four.

The current 7er from BMW came onto the market in October last year. For customer requests above this limousine, it has so far only been possible to refer to the significantly more expensive subsidiary brand Rolls-Royce. Competitor Mercedes, on the other hand, offers the S-Class as a sedan, coupe and cabriolet. The range is further expanded with the luxury version Mercedes-Maybach and the extra-long Pullman limousine.
