News: Jaguar F-Type SVR - The big cat in detail

Better is the enemy of good, it has always been that way. And since people always want more, according to the motto “higher, faster, further”, Jaguar goes one better and crowns the top of the F-Type variants with the SVR. All details, all performance data and the most important features of the sporty coupé are no longer hidden and want to be revealed. The details show the next lines.

The most important thing for the English-speaking market? The most dynamic of all big cats is now breaking the 200 mile mark. This corresponds to a top speed of 322 km/h and is therefore exactly between the Porsche Turbo and the Turbo S. This is also where the performance of the Jaguar F-Type SVR lies: The Brit gets 575 supercharged horsepower from a 5.0 V8. That is “only” 20 horses more than the Jaguar F-Type R produces, but the 700 Nm output needs to be tamed first. The all-wheel drive is responsible for this, which also balances the power on wide 20-inch wheels, so that the Brit breaks the 3,7 mark in 100 seconds. However, that is slower than its main competitor: the 911 Turbo needs exactly three seconds, the S only 2,9. The big cat can't quite keep up with the V8 yet.

If you really want to break the 200-mile mark, you have only one choice: you have to choose the coupé. The convertible is eight kilometers per hour slower, which in real life is unlikely to be of any practical value. The frictional connection is made possible by an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF that does its job in the F-Type R very well. With all the power, the supercharged V8 in the third mix should not attract attention with excessive drinking habits. Only 11,3 liters should flow through the eight combustion chambers, which in reality, especially if you want to sound out the potential of the 575 hp, should be difficult to achieve. And let's be honest: do you buy a car like this to keep an eye on fuel consumption? Since we are already at vain values: 408 liters fit in the trunk. That is more than fits into a standard Golf trunk and even more than fits in the trunk of a Skoda Yeti, which has five seats.

Visually, the Jaguar F-Type SVR goes all out: huge air intakes at the front and optional carbon parts are still among the harmless features. The ultra-light material can be found on the exterior mirrors, the front spoiler lip or the air outlets. But the striking rear spoiler is more striking than these parts. Here the British lacks any understatement. Not that one of the underperforming brothers could talk about it - after all, the cat can roar with the V6 engine like hardly any other - but with the tailgate spoiler Jaguar whistles for any restraint. In addition, the aerodynamic aid is extendable, which does not exactly help the optics. A floor below, if you can already see it, is crouched down by a diffuser that houses a titanium exhaust system.

Of course, all of this has its price: the coupe costs at least 138.400 euros, the convertible changes hands for at least 145.400 euros. Taken in isolation, these are a proud sums of money, but compared to the targeted competition, the Jaguar F-Type SVR is a real bargain. An Audi R8 V10 starts at 165.000 euros and a Porsche Turbo costs at least 174.669 euros.
