Porsche is showing the second hybrid variant of the Panamera in Geneva

With the new Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, Porsche is positioning a plug-in hybrid as the top model in a series for the first time. The four-liter V8 engine from the Panamera Turbo is combined with an electric motor. The result is a system output of 500 kW/680 hp. A torque of 850 Nm is already available just above idle speed. This accelerates the Porsche Panamera from zero to 100 km/h in 3,4 seconds. The boost strategy of the all-wheel drive Panamera comes from the 918 Spyder super sports car.

Unique drive concept with V8 engine and electric motor

After the debut of the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, which uses a combination of V6 engine and electric motor, Porsche is showing hybrid technology with a V8 engine. The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid combines an electric motor (100 kW/136 hp) with a V8 engine (404 kW/550 hp).

As with all other second-generation Panamera models, the fast-shifting Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) with eight gears is used to transmit power to the standard adaptive all-wheel drive system Porsche Traction Management (PTM). The e-performance drive accelerates the luxury sedan to 3,4 km/h in just 100 seconds and ensures exceptional pulling power at higher speeds. The top speed of the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is 310 km/h.

Full batteries after just 2,4 hours

The electric motor is powered by a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 14,1 kWh. The high-voltage battery integrated in the rear area is fully charged within six hours via a 230-volt connection with ten amps. If the Panamera uses the optional 3,6 kW on-board charger and a 7,2 volt connection with 230 amps as an alternative to the standard 32 kW charger, the battery is fully charged after just 2,4 hours.

Charging can also be started in a time-controlled manner via Porsche Communication Management (PCM) or the Porsche Connect app (for smartphones and Apple Watch). In addition, the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid is equipped with stationary air conditioning to cool or heat the interior while charging.

Long-distance comfort, efficiency and performance

By default, the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid starts in the purely electric “E-Power” mode. The four-door sports car travels a distance of up to 50 kilometers with zero local emissions. By overcoming a pressure point on the accelerator pedal or when the battery charge level falls below a minimum level, the Panamera switches to “Hybrid Auto” mode – the power of both engines is thus available. Consumption in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for plug-in hybrid models is 2,9 l/100 km premium petrol (66 g/km CO2) and 16,2 kWh/100 km electricity.

Two wheelbases are available

The new top model of the second Panamera generation will be launched in Europe in July 2017. Other markets will follow in the second half of 2017. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid will celebrate its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show (7th to 19th March 2017). From the outset, the four-door Gran Turismo will also be available as an Executive version with a wheelbase that is 150 millimeters longer.

The standard equipment of the hybrid includes the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control Sport including Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus. Plus Power Steering Plus and 21-inch alloy wheels in the 911 Turbo design. Also in the basic equipment: stationary air conditioning, adaptive aerodynamic elements and the three-chamber air suspension including Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM). The long version is equipped with rear-axle steering as standard.

In Germany, the Panamera costs from €185.736 including VAT. The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Executive starts at a price of 199.183 euros.
