Introduced: The new Audi TT

With the TT you make friends straight away.

This is how a German car newspaper wrote it after letting the editor drive the new TT in advance. Well - a little bit of gratitude should resonate in the sentence, after all you got the chance for a round in the TT first and on the other hand the sentence should express what I already thought during the presentation a few weeks ago:

The new Audi TT looks like an “old acquaintance”

Quote from my TT presentation

You make friends with “old acquaintances” straight away. Otherwise, your colleagues' driving report doesn't leave you in the dark about what to expect when you go to an appointment with the “casual athlete from Ingolstadt”.

The chassis seems to be sporty, oh, very surprising. The steering turns out to be smooth and the processing is - natural - excellent. The rest of the explanations for the new TT could also apply to any other VW construction kit model. The question arises: Is the new TT so boring? Is there nothing to tell about the third generation of the “most beautiful VW Golf”? VW Golf? Do not Scare. This is not a typo. There is of course a little VW Golf under the sheet metal of the TT (8S). It was no different with the first generation. And the second generation also used the Wolfsburg parent company's construction kit.

The third Audi TT generation is based on Volkswagen's MQB system and uses chocolate chips. Modern four-cylinder turbo engines with an output of 184 to 310 hp. The TDI is nailed with 184 hp, the petrol engines initially take over the power levels 230 and 310 hp. The power of the 310 hp petrol engine is brought to the road via a dual clutch and Haldex all-wheel drive. The “small” petrol and diesel engines are also available with front-wheel drive and a manual six-speed gearbox.

The press release for third generation TT Although it was wordy, there were no real highlights to be found. In this way, a detail is given a leading role. The Ingolstadt-based company’s new “virtual” cockpit. Nothing that you wouldn't already know from other manufacturers - but with typical “perfection made in Ingolstadt”. A TFT screen the size of a home TV is used to display the cockpit information. The resolution and graphical depth of detail are intoxicating. The idea behind it makes sense. In addition to this new display, the Ingolstadt-based company is relying on minimalism in the interior. There is no need for a second display in the middle of the dashboard; the displays for the climate control are even installed as small displays in the control buttons of the three air vents.

4.5 got stars from 5 the new Audi TTS at the first exit of a German car newspaper.

At the end of the article one wonders what for. The entire package of the TT looks scary. The design is a complete refusal to work and no new car would have been needed for the new cockpit alone.

I'll be able to drive the new Audi TT at the end of September - I'm curious to see if I will find more news than has been communicated so far and if there is more to write about. Should write.

Until the driving report on the new Audi TT, I will publish a little information about the Audi TT every few days, a little more about the new TT. So if you're really interested in the TT in its third generation, you should stay tuned...
