SSC Tuatara sets the world speed record

As early as 2007, the SSC Ultimate Aero made a name for itself. Back then, he reclaimed the title of fastest hypercar from the Bugatti Veyron. Now its successor, the Shelby Supercars Tuatara, is setting a new SSC Tuatara world speed record. The American hypercar was said to have reached speeds of 533 km/h last year. SSC Tuatara world speed record

This time, the new experiment took place at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Four different telemetry devices were used. The collected values should be much more coherent this time than last year. As with most top-speed runs, a two-way average is required to negate the effects of variables like wind and surface inconsistencies. The average speed of the test run was a top speed of 455 km/h.

To this day, despite various measurement backups, the value does not seem 100% certain. Despite everything, he is ahead of the des Koenigsegg Agera RS. Its previous record was a top speed of 447 km/h. A professional racing driver sat in the Agera for the record. The S.S.C. Tuatara The world speed record was set by the owner, a certain Dr. Larry Caplin, himself.

World record with street legal vehicle

Unlike many other record holders, the Shelby Supercars-built SSC Tuatara is identical to the vehicles delivered to customers. For example, it is equipped with standard sports tires and road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport tires. It is fueled with E85 petrol.

The SSC Tuatara is powered by a 5,9 liter V8 engine. This delivers 1.750 hp and transmits its power to the rear axle via an automatic seven-speed manual transmission. The Tuatara is made entirely of carbon. Even the rims of the hypercar are made of the super light carbon fiber material.

Bugatti Chiron was even faster

The French super sports car manufacturer Bugatti currently holds the absolute top record in terms of speed. With a Chiron Sport 300+ Andy Wallace drove the top speed of 2019 km/h on the Ehra-Lessien test track in October 490,48.
